Best Poem

Lie lightly on her, turf and dew ...
She put so little weight on you.

*****************

They're the few people who accept silence over conversation
A relationship like this denies silly promises and persuasion
You don't feel the need to second guess thoughts or measure words
Their love comes in wholes, not halves, not thirds

*****************

I often scribble in the sand
The words I find so hard to say
And hope the wind will come along
And blow them all your way.

*****************

You know how this is:
if I look
at the crystal moon, at the red branch
of the slow autumn at my window,
if I touch
near the fire
the impalpable ash
or the wrinkled body of the log,
everything carries me to you,
as if everything that exists,
aromas, light, metals,
were little boats
that sail
toward those isles of yours that wait for me.

*****************

So, we'll go no more a-roving
So late into the night,
Though the heart be still as loving,
And the moon be still as bright.
For the sword outwears its sheath,
And the soul wears out the breast,
And the heart must pause to breathe,
And love itself have rest.

*****************

Be glad your nose is on your face,
not pasted on some other place,
for if it were where it is not,
you might dislike your nose a lot.

Imagine if your precious nose
were sandwiched in between your toes,
that clearly would not be a treat,
for you'd be forced to smell your feet.

*****************

If ever two were one,then surely we.
If ever man were lov'd by wife,then thee;
If ever wife was happy in a man,
Compare with me ye women if you can.
I prize thy love more than whole Mines of gold,
Or all the riches that the East doth hold.
My love is such that Rivers cannot quench,
Nor ought but love from thee, give recompence.
Thy love is such I can no way repay,
The heavens reward thee manifold I pray.
Then while we live, in love let's so persever,
That when we live no more, we may live ever.

***************

Wild nights! Wild nights!
Were I with thee,
Wild nights should be
Our luxury!
Futile the winds
To a heart in port,
Done with the compass,
Done with the chart.
Rowing in Eden!
Ah! the sea!
Might I but moor
To-night in thee!

***************

Flow, softly flow, by lawn and lea,
A rivulet then a river;

No where by thee my steps shall be,
For ever and for ever.

But here will sigh thine alder tree,
And here thine aspen shiver;

And here by thee will hum the bee,
For ever and for ever.

***************

Now droops the milkwhite peacock like a ghost,
And like a ghost she glimmers on to me.

Now lies the Earth all Danae to the stars,
And all thy heart lies open unto me.

Now slides the silent meteor on, and leaves
A shining furrow, as thy thoughts in me.

Now folds the lily all her sweetness up,
And slips into the bosom of the lake:

So fold thyself, my dearest, thou, and slip
Into my bosom and be lost in me.

***************

With brown, soft hair close braided by her ears,
And longing eyes half veiled by slumberous tears

Like bluest water seen through mists of rain:
Pale cheeks whereon no love hath left its stain,

Red underlip drawn in for fear of love,
And white throat, whiter than the silvered dove,

***************

Hast thou named all the birds without a gun;
Loved the wood-rose, and left it on its stalk;

At rich men's tables eaten bread and pulse;
Unarmed, faced danger with a heart of trust;

And loved so well a high behavior
In man or maid, that thou from speech refrained,

Nobility more nobly to repay?
O be my friend, and teach me to be thine!

***************

The sinful painter drapes his goddess warm,
Because she still is naked, being drest;

The godlike sculptor will not so deform
Beauty, which bones and flesh enough invest.

***************

Cherry-ripe, ripe, ripe, I cry.
Full and fair ones; come, and buy.

If so be you ask me where.
They do grow ? I answer, there.

Where my Julia's lips do smile.
There's the land, or cherry-isle.

Whose plantations fully show.
All the year where cherries grow.

*****************

To outer senses there is peace.
A dreamy peace on either hand.

Deep silence in the shadowy land.
Deep silence where the shadows cease..

Save for a cry that echoes shrill.
From some lone bird disconsolate.

A corncrake calling to its mate.
The answer from the misty hill.

*****************

I got me flowers to straw Thy way.
I got me boughs off many a tree.

But Thou wast up by break of day.
And brought'st Thy sweets along with Thee.

Yet though my flowers be lost, they say.
A heart can never come too late.

Teach it to sing Thy praise this day.
And then this day my life shall date.

*****************

He ate and drank the precious words.
His spirit grew robust.

He knew no more that he was poor.
Nor that his frame was dust.

He danced along the dingy days.
And this bequest of wings.

Was but a book. What liberty.
A loosened spirit brings.

*****************

You meant so much to all of us
You were special and that's no lie
You brightened up the darkest day
And the cloudiest sky

*************

Walk beside me a while, let me feel
Your presence, your absence surreal
Often present, the lack of a presence
Now has past: the past, though is still present.
Bemused, my thoughts often take flight.

*************

I am an American who loves America
I wonder why peolpe hate America
I hear the eagle call for freedom
I see the flag waving in the wind
I want the soldiers to come home safe
I am an American who loves America

*************

Its span is such
An eagle in its flight
My pulse does shriek and pound
For America-

My America-
Ever coasting homeward bound.

*************

Until we meet
My nights will be a little colder
My days a little shorter
My heart will beat a little less rapid
Until we meet

*************

I love the way you make me laugh
I love the way you make me cry
Tears of joy stream from my eyes
As I hear your voice, a loving surprise.
I love you when you're angry
I love you when you're sad

*************

Lonely on the land I walk
Lonely cross the sea I sail
Lonely air of beach I stroll
This lonely life doth take its toll.

*************

There is a place where the sidewalk ends
And before the street begins,
And there the grass grows soft and white,
And there the sun burns crimson bright,
And there the moon-bird rests from his flight
To cool in the peppermint wind.

*************

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills'
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

*************

Although I can see him still.
The freckled man who goes
To a grey place on a hill
In grey Connemara clothes
At dawn to cast his flies,
It's long since I began
To call up to the eyes
This wise and simple man.
All day I'd looked in the face
What I had hoped 'twould be
To write for my own race
And the reality;

*************

When you are old and grey and full of sleep,
And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;
How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty with love false or true,
But one man loved the pilgrim Soul in you,
And loved the sorrows of your changing face;

*************

The brawling of a sparrow in the eaves,
The brilliant moon and all the milky sky,
And all that famous harmony of leaves,
Had blotted out man's image and his cry.
A girl arose that had red mournful lip
And seemed the greatness of the world in tears,
Doomed like Odysseus and the labouring ships
And proud as Priam murdered with his peers;

*************

The worst feeling in the world knows you did the best you could, & it still wasn't good enough.

*************

My Silence Doesn't Mean am Gone, My Quietness Doesn't Mean am Dead or Apart from U, But Deep in my HEART, Somewhere, Every time. Ur always Remembered, Cared & Missed.

*************

Don't lose yourself in an attempt to hold on to someone who doesn't care about losing you.
